В статията се анализира развоят на френско-германските отношения след Втората световна война. Откроява се значението на партньорството на Франция и ФРГ в стартирането на европейския интеграционен проект през 50-те години на ХХ в. за историческото помирение на двете най-големи нации в континентална Западна Европа. Акцентира се на Версайския договор от 1963 г. и неговите архитекти – ген. Шарл дьо Гол и д-р Конрад Аденауер, издигнали двустранните отношения на по-високо равнище. Подчертава се ролята на колективното френско-германско лидерство в развитието на европейската интеграция след включването на Великобритания в нея. Прави се характеристика на международната среда на сигурност и на специфичната европейска обстановка, в която се сключва Договорът от Аахен. Коментират се неговите основни клаузи. Показва се противоречивият отзвук в обществата и в политическите среди на двете страни на новите френско-германски договорености. Прави се опит да се открои значението на Договора от Аахен за преодоляване на кризата на Европейския съюз и за придаване на нова динамика и дълбочина на европейския интеграционен процес.

The article analyzes the development of Franco-German relations since the Second World War. The importance of the partnership between France and Germany in launching the European integration project in the 1950s for the historic reconciliation of the two largest nations in continental Western Europe is highlighted. The emphasis is on the Versailles Treaty of 1963 and its architects – Gen. Charles de Gaulle and Dr. Conrad Adenauer have elevated bilateral relations to a higher level. The role of collective Franco-German leadership in the development of European integration after Britain's involvement is emphasized. The international security environment and the specific European environment. in which the Aachen Treaty is concluded, are characterized. Treaty main clauses are commented on. The contradictory echoes in the societies and political circles of both sides of the new Franco-German arrangements are showing. An attempt is made to highlight the importance of the Aachen Treaty in overcoming the crisis in the European Union and in giving new dynamism and depth to the European integration process.
